Top 5 Wedding Invitation Mistakes
When it comes to a beautiful wedding, you hope everything goes off without a hitch. The problem, of course, comes when you make a mistake. We all make mistakes, but there are five common mistakes that are easy to avoid, when it comes to wedding invitations. Designing your wedding invitation can be a lot of fun, but some work, too. By thinking ahead, though, you can avoid some of the top five mistakes when it comes to wedding invitations.
Not Requesting Samples
The first mistake has to do with not requesting samples before you place a big order. It’s important to get an idea of what you’re buying, before you buy. You don’t want to sacrifice one of the most important items in setting the tone for your wedding.
If you order a few samples, you can get an idea of how different invitations will look and feel. This gives you the opportunity to compare invitation styles, as well as ink styles. Requesting a free sample only makes sense, when you think about it.
Making Errors
The next mistake comes with making simple errors, such as spelling errors or getting the date wrong. It’s easy to misspell a word or two, so make sure you proofread the entire copy multiple times. You may even want a savvy friend to do the same. After all, this is your important day, and you don’t want a simple mistake to get in the way.
Omitting Information
Just like you don’t want to make any spelling or grammatical mistakes, you don’t want to forget to provide your guests with any important information. Consider including maps and other important items, which you cannot print on the invitation, with extra enclosures.
Not Ordering Enough
Another common mistake has to do with not ordering enough invitations. Remember, you may make mistakes or accidentally bend or crease an invitation while assembling them. For this reason, you want to make sure you have some extra invitations on hand.
You may also want some extras in case you end up adding to your guest list after you put your order in. You may not have enough time to get your invitations reordered and mailed out if you have to wait for another batch of invitations to be printed. This is why it is a good idea to order about 25 more invitations than you think you will need.
Not Using Enough Postage
Our final common wedding invitation mistake has to do with mailing the invitations out. By all means, you want to make sure you put enough postage on the invitation so that it isn’t returned to you by the post office. Also, remember, when ordering, that square-shaped invitations often cost more to mail than other shapes, so make sure you find out before you mail them.
In addition, make sure you include postage on your RSVP envelopes. You need to make sure these are pre-stamped before you send them off with the invitations.
